Why can't the universe be eternal? It's as likely to be the case as god being eternal - there is no evidence to support either.
We don't and can't know what happened before the big bang - did it come from something that was there previously, did it come from nothing?
If people are saying the universe needs a cause, and therefore it can only be caused by an uncaused eternal being - that is classic "god of the gaps" - where is the evidence for that? Why can't the universe itself be eternal or uncaused?

You are currently experiencing a lucky and very brief window of awareness, sandwiched in between two periods of timeless and utter nothingness. So why not make the most of it, and stop wasting your life away trying to convince other people that there is something else? The reality is obvious.
