Welcome!
That was a bit epic, but worth reading.
You've come to the same point I did recently and beat me by about 10 years. I have always been atheist for as long as I can remember considering the subject, but up until recently it has been based upon the argument of authority, and that struck me as fundamentally flawed, especially as the authority is deeply steeped in my own culture.
I have taken great pains to read as much as I can, and consider the issues at hand more empirically and that my thoughts on the matter should rely on as little plagiarism of thought as possible (if possible at all realistically).
Your thoughts on the inner conviction strike a chord, which is the main reason the primary quote I have on my signature which sums it up beautifully in my estimation.
"Self-authenticating private evidence is useless, because it is indistinguishable from the illusion of it."
It amazing how often this should be taken into consideration, in discussions of religion, free will, and wherever the problem at hand is based upon our limited perceptions of the world.
Great intro, look forward to your posts.

If you’re going to watch tele, you should watch Scooby Doo. That show was so cool because every time there’s a church with a ghoul, or a ghost in a school. They looked beneath the mask and what was inside?
The f**king janitor or the dude who runs the waterslide. Throughout history every mystery. Ever solved has turned out to be. Not Magic. ― Tim Minchin, Storm
