It's not a matter of race. It's more a serious problem of liability. When violence escalates and people get hurt (which includes the child herself) people can be sued. This is why the police had to get involved. The school does not want a "he said she said" situation on their hands. They need to show that they did measures to protect the child, other children, and staff.
My kids went to a mostly white elementary school in a neighborhood of very expensive houses. The cops had to be called a few times. One of these times I know for sure it was about a child, other times I suspect this. School officials can't talk about these things.
