Quote:Honestly Mehm, I'd be looking for special protections and rights from the likes of you and yours as well. I bet you would too, if the situation were reversed. That's a pattern in your thoughts. Your unwillingness to be subjected to that which you would subject others to. Your constant dismissal of others on the grounds that they are not you, or not like you.No, I would not, on the ground of which I view how one should behave himself if one shares a "minority conscience" anywhere.
If I viewed myself as a minority in a place with overwhelming majority, I certainly would not push my own goals over the goals of the general public. This would create contempt and destroy the general harmony of the public.
If I wished to enjoy rights based on my conscience as a minority of any kind, I'd probably go somewhere where I could enjoy these as a part of the majority.
Like, for example, if I lived in the USA, would I write a letter to the congress demanding Turkish to be taught as the primary language of education in a seperate school for just Turkish children?
What purpose would this really serve? Or would I want a statue of a grey wolf to be erected near a park where I live?
No, it would simply be nonsense, nothing more.
I'd rather go back to Turkey to enjoy these privilages granted to me by the sovereignity we have over there.
I have no such privilages anywhere else, mind you.
Neither do the gays. They have the rights that the majority of the country has, and privilages that they also enjoy. If they want to get married, they can do so, in accordance with how the majority views marriage.
They cannot force their own version of a marriage where they have their own weird gender roles or whatsoever.
If so, everyone could really just practice a version of marrige they deem to be fit for themselves. Some would marry several women, some would marry several men, some would marry their own close relatives, creating confusion and destruction of marrige as an institution based on the creation of family, and legal sharing of property-this is what marrige is all about. Not about "love" as some romantics would like to put forward.
And I believe that this is where it brings us to. Gays can enjoy the privilage of legal sharing of property, but under a seperate context from marriage.
Quote:You set the standard for "normal" as yourself.I must. If I don't, someone else will. Perhaps someone else sets standards on very weird things. Again, maybe these are not so weird according to that individual. I set the standards of normal according to the general view of the "normal" public. People who share views on at least one thing. And I believe that most people in my country and neighboring countries have the same views about marriage. May it be secular or religious views.
Quote:I hereby state that the standard for "normal" is myself.Do you have a clear majority in your country to set this standard to your own level?
If no, I would certainly not take your views in consideration if you came to me with a proposal that homosexuality is normal. Besides, it's not even normal by biological standards.
Quote: You are an abnormality. Do not try to publicize yourself,I reserve the right to publicize myself by the clear majority that share the same views as me on this matter. Besides, from a biological viewpoint, there are things that are considered normal, and those which are not.
Quote: or ask to be recognized as a minority.I am not a minority on this subject, friend. Actually, I'm a majority if you take the world into consideration.
Quote:Certainly you deserve no special rightsWhat kind of special rights could I ask for that I do not already have?
I have the right to get married, raise a family. These are the privilages I had since the antiquity. Gays on the other hand, had no such privilages, as they were biologically unable to procreate from their homosexual acts, they were rightfully seen as unfit to fill this role within society. The notion of family was left to heterosexual, normal couples to be the foundation of any society, the family.
Quote:and by "special" I of course mean all of the same rights I enjoyJust asking, on which base did you declare me to be abnormal? On my views on homosexuality, "sexual preference" as you call it, or on my ethnic affiliation? Besides the last one, I'm sure I'll fit right in with the majority of the normal people in your country.
