I think it was a lot earlier than that. I believe both the Mycenean Greek and the Hittites had war chariots way before anyone has ever heard of Assyrains. The first recorded battle in history, between Remesis II's Eqypt and the Hittits in Syria, featured war horses.
There is an very impressive set of segmented broze Mycenean armor with boar's tusk helmet that could only have been worn by someone with a chariot to carry them around.
