Adrian, I've resurrected this thread due to a recent report of BNP activity. In the course of our debate in this thread around the nature of racism we discussed golliwogs. You said that a golliwog is nothing more than a " benign toy ". I, of course, disagree with that.
Anyway, just recently BNP paty members were filmed burning a golliwog while one of their candidates for ofice suggested going to " get a real one.....in town we'll find one or two! ".
I think this is a good example of the baggage that goes with the doll and why it is offensive and has been recognised as such by very many people, black and white.
