That's a little weird.

I once knew a Barossa-German family who grew wine grapes. They gave their 11 yo daughter a full grown dog as a pet. The day she got it, the dog ran under the tractor and was killed. So daddy skinned it and tanned the hide. The hide then became a rug in the child's room. I saw it once,when I was about 9 and was horrified.

Sounds like there was no relationship there. As horrifying as watching an animal being run over, I'm fairly certain it's not nearly as traumatic as a pet you've bonded with dying violently.
