How come so many of you speak german?
Ich habe deise Sprache vier Jahre im Gynasium studiert. Es ist die Sprache meine Vorvatern.
What I hope I just said: I have studied this language for four years in High School. It's the language of my ancestors.
Well, some of them anyway. I'm also part Scottish and a few other British groups but the English-speaking part I have down fairly well.
It's been over 25 years since I studied this language so there's so much I've forgotten. If I really made a study of it, I could be fluent again, I think. I actually had the experience so few of my fellow Americans do of being able to actually think in the foreign language (as opposed to the cumbersome process of hear what's said, translate to English, think of response, translate to other language).
