Exactly. I too think the way our system has evolved has rendered it "one dollar, one vote" rather than "one man, one vote". The republicans really represent everything that puts the ugly in "ugly american".
We basically have a hostage situation. Republicans have a gun to the head of child welfare (amongst other vulnerable groups) and I fully believe they intend to shoot .. unless we keep them out of office. The democrats may not be the most awesome people we know but the republicans can and do out bad them every day of the week.
