Well, with all due respect, I too am distrusting of so-called 'character education' (HOTS, value clarification). The theories it is based on are largely pseudo-scientific and unproven, it serves no readily identifiable and legitimate pedagogical goal, and it's impossible to teach it without undue influence resulting from the educators' personal biases; it's near impossible to teach it in a truly value neutral way.
That being said, I don't see anything in the list you quoted that is any less self-serving with respect to Republican values than is the political platform of any other political party. You characterize them as crazy because you disagree with their aims, not because their aims are remarkable relative to the aims of other political parties. And at the end of the day, politics and political parties are a lot like the legal system, attempting to use the same logic you use to understand everyday matters will likely only lead you astray.
