Have used; Norton,Kaspersky, PcCillin, McAfee,Avast and AVG.(Zone Alarm and Comodo firewalls) Currently have been using Windows Security Essentials and Spybot for about 6 months and seems fine.
Be most grateful fora critique of MS Security Essentials and recommendation(s) for a superior security system.
Ha, you and me both. I'm not exactly an expert, more like a dabbler. I'm to computing what Guybrush Threepwood is to pirating... google it.
Anyway, I don't know much about MS Security Essentials but my Which? subscription does.
If you haven't heard of it Which? is a reviewer of *everything* but with a difference... its completely unbiased. Which is why a subscription is so bloody expensive.
As it goes MS Security Essentials didn't score that badly but that was among the free anti viruses. One downside to using a free anti-virus is that it depends on windows firewall unless you pay for one separately. While windows firewall isn't terrible it isn't the maximum security you could get.
Their number one best buy was an anti-virus I had never heard of called "Bullguard Internet Security 12". It excelled in virtually all areas according to Which? except networking. If you only want to use this to keep one pc safe then its perfect but it has no tools for managing a network of pcs. I know what you're asking; "Why didn't you get it?". Well four reasons; I forgot, I had never heard of it which is a stupid reason in foresight, Which? doesn't solely review for pcs so I doubted how far their expertise extended in that area, they had not reviewed Kaspersky PURE 2.0. so I assumed their reviews would be out of date and PURE was the next batch of freshly baked cookies that would leave a crumbly sweet taste in my mouth like no other. Suffice to say all four reasons were wrong and what I now taste in my mouth is more akin to a steaming pile of horse shit.
I'm not going to make a recommendation but I can honestly tell you if I could travel back in time I would firstly hook past me for the aforementioned transgressions, I would then explain to his... my unconscious body that it would be a better idea to purchase "Bullguard Internet Security 12". I would then give him a kick for good measure and get back in the police box.
Hope this helps.
