I'm the combination of all of those things and more, no single part by itself would create the person I am today. Does that mean free will is an illusion and that we are simply the sum of all those parts? Probably, I can't possibly know with the information I have and neither can you.
"Should be"? This is a personal statement made purely from your set of values. It means nothing here.
The theory of evolution does not claim there is a point to consciousnous aside from the ability to make potentially life saving decisions and I would challenge you to demonstrate it does.
