When were these first schoolbooks with God written all over them published and used? The reason I ask is that in the couple of centuries that the USA has existed as a nation, I seem to recall there being quite a period of intense and bloody battles going on. Prayer was only taken out of US public schools in 1962. Weren't there a couple of major global wars involving America that happened before then, while prayer would still have been included in schools? I also seem to recall the Korean 'police action' of the early fifties (that prompted the McCarthy witch-hunts and the "In God We Trust" on paper money and "One Nation Under God" addition to the pledge) as not being exactly a picnic, either.
If anything, the years since 1962 have been comparatively less bloody than the period in which God was all over this guy's textbooks. Unless he's talking about the traditional pastime of defacing school books, about which all I can say is it seems to me that English kids must have been much more genitally imaginative.

At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'
