Whoooo, golly. Close, but not exact. Transsexual is someone who identifies as a gender different from the sex they were born with. A transvestite is someone who dresses up as the opposite sex, usually for a sexual thrill. Calling a transsexual a transvestite is about the fastest way I know of to have a herd of angry trannies pissed at you; me, I'm more understanding and laid back about that. Transsexuals are a minority and as a result, not everyone really 'gets' us yet.
Sorry, I really thought it was short for transvestite. What about the term "lesbian"? Is that a more polite and neutral word?
