I think this is a very good way of actually getting the sense of scale right. It is so difficult to comprehend what a number like 4 lightyears actually means. If the Sun were scaled to a 1 foot radius, then Alpha Centauri would be about 10,300 miles away. And that is just a nearby star, where we have not found any evidence emanating from it that there is life in that system, let alone visiting us.
