I don't believe it was, and frankly... I see nothing wrong with calling the Japanese 'japs' when in chill company. Nor the average Arabian guy 'Jamal'. Nor the chinks. Nor the niggas. It can be a racial slur, sure... but it's also part of everyday speech.
The old "so you're offended, so fucking what", y'know? People will just make new racial slurs if you make it painful for them to use the old ones.
