Most people won't change their views right a way. Discussions usually won't end with one side bowing to the other and saying you are right. But if gives you a lot to think about. You come to realize how strong or weak your arguments are. You get to know counter arguments, and counter arguments to counter arguments.
For example, we had a really good thread on the issue of evil/suffering. Simon Moon and I made a lot of progress. At the end, we disagree, but that doesn't mean we didn't learn anything or achieve anything.
If you feel like you shouldn't share your views or don't want to debate them, that's up to you. And if you don't feel the need to prove a religion is wrong, that's up to you.
