Jerry Brown is MY governor. I am Californian.
Here's the opening blurb from the petition site:
The blurb to the actual bill:
Analysis:
The paragraph for the drive to "urge" Gov Brown to sign it is misleading. Although the resolutions described therein of the legislation does state, in layman terms, it is "ok" to be gay, the actual binding portions have to do with mental health care (IE gay->straight "therapies") for underage children.
Further research would not retrieve information on Gov Brown's opinions one way or the other.
As such, Cato123's disparaging tone is unwarranted and deserving of the term 'asshole'.
Furthermore, the intonation of the petition may imply that Gov Brown is acting against SB-1172. That is not the case and lacks evidence thereof.
Henceforth negative comments on Gov Brown with respect to SB-1172 are unwarranted as of 9/25/2012.
Here's the opening blurb from the petition site:

A bill sitting on California Governor Jerry Brown's desk right now would prohibit people from harming youth by attempting to change their sexual orientation. Now we need a nationwide call – and your help – to ask Gov. Brown to sign it.
According to a report HRC issued earlier this summer, 89 percent of LGBT youth in the state report hearing negative things about being LGBT – with nearly a third hearing them from elected officials.
But this first-of-its-kind law wouldn't just help young people in California – it would send a powerful message to the nation that young LGBT people are perfect the way they are. Join HRC in calling on Governor Brown to sign SB 1172.
The blurb to the actual bill:
Quote:SB 1172, Lieu. Sexual orientation change efforts.REF: http://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/...0120SB1172
Existing law provides for licensing and regulation of various professions in the healing arts, including physicians and surgeons, psychologists, marriage and family therapists, educational psychologists, clinical social workers, and licensed professional clinical counselors.
This bill would prohibit a mental health provider, as defined, from engaging in sexual orientation change efforts, as defined, with a patient under 18 years of age. The bill would provide that any sexual orientation change efforts attempted on a patient under 18 years of age by a mental health provider shall be considered unprofessional conduct and shall subject the provider to discipline by the provider’s licensing entity.
