See, to me that sort of thing would say that those people perceive something wrong with me, something broken that needs fixing; and what a surprise, they have the very thing to cure it.
It's be different if I actually needed help, whether I actively sought it myself or was offered it. The people you describe probably think on some level they're doing this, but they haven't even shown that there even is a problem in the first place. Get that settled first, then we might have something to talk about.
