Dried fruit -usually- has a metric shit-ton of added sugar (and a laundry list of other ingredients to help it store better)...btw...probably has something to do with consumers tastes on that count. Take a look at some craisins..lol (tart fruits are the worst offenders). Not that you can't find a good (if "no added sugar" is the qualifier) bag of dried fruit, but you'll probably pay more for it, and it's outnumbered on the aisle - even the health food aisle. But, like you said, so long as you eat less dried fruit than you would fresh fruit than the sugar doesn't really become a problem (I find that extremely difficult btw, I eat with my eyes). On the other hand, one could always eat a bite sized snickers and leave it at that as well...hehehe.Oh I agree. I just don't think dried fruit is "unhealthy", and it has it's uses on hikes and trips to the beach and such. Barring those tart fruits, as you said. I eat dried fruit rarely, usually as a treat. It's certainly better than a candy bar when I want something sweet! I'm pretty good about eating small amounts of sweet things in general (sugar makes me feel jittery), so for me the sugar content isn't an issue. But it is very expensive. I prefer fresh fruit, too. Apple, pears, bananas, oranges and grapes are staples in the house (with summer berries when we can get them), with apples being the constant year round fruit of choice.
