Hydroflouric (HF) acid will actually ignore flesh and only attack bones (Random fact of the day). Acid is weird stuff, water is technically an acid because the formula starts with H. Both acid and fire will eventually deteriorate nerves to the point that you cannot feel anything so comparing the two is meaningless because it is the degree of exposure that determines which will cause more pain not the type of exposure. Hell, you could cause extreme pain with a belt sander properly applied to the body and it would be the amount of exposure that determines pain level.
I do think that fire has a unique ability to find that sweet spot where your nerves are affected but not destroyed and still leave you alive, whereas acid is more persistent and will usually either, not affect you that much, or will proceed to kill you. Fire is plasma and dissipates easily. Acid is liquid and persists without a neutralizing agent. In labs that have HF acid they keep a creme that is high in calcium so if you get HF on you the creme will neutralize the acid. It is not very effective but better than just sitting around waiting for your bones to be consumed!
