No leap of Faith is required. Adrian has provided more than one proof of the concept on this thread already.
My favourite being the fact that 0.9r is infinitely long - an infinite length of 0s - it is endless so there can't be anything on the end of it, so there can't be a gap between it and 1.0, so it must be the same number as '1.0' but represented in decimal.
