I find it strange that islam says every other sin might be forgiven except giving god a partner. but thats how it is for them.
I don't find that odd at all. The most important thing is single minded and exclusionary obedience. Nothing strange there in the context of religious belief -particularly when it becomes a political identity (which it was and is).
