Quote:Not only is god's prophet apparently extremely vain, but god endorsed it. Elisha didn't send the bears ... his god did.Yes Elisha simply pronounced a curse on them.
Quote: Do you think all 42 of those kids were equally guilty? You have to guess that quite a few of them just happened to be there and weren't really conspirators, and even if they ALL were mocking the old dude, did they really deserve that?If you read the passage closly it indicates that their was more than 42 kids there. I like to think the 42 who died where all who mocked the embodyment of God Elisha repersented.
Quote:Also, can anyone tell me how only two bears can maul 42 people?? Seems unlikely doesn't it? I mean even if a bear could somehow manage to maul three at a time it seems like quite an exaggeration.Bears are huge, and extremely fast (when they want to be/ They can catch fish by plucking them out of the water with a paw or mouth.) We have a stuffed grizzley in a local shop he is posed on his hind legs and is at Least 10 ft tall with massive paws. I can see them cutting through a full grown man in one or two solid swipes.
With the proper motivation I'm sure they could have cut through 100 kids given enough time. (remember the story does not give us a time frame.)
Plus it is hard to believe that this is the story in the chapter you are having trouble accepting. If you can accept everything elses said how hard would it be for God to supercharge a couple of bears?
Quote:My point is that there's no getting outta this one clean. If god did this, he's reprehensible and loathsome.-Or- God is not the grandpa figure you think him to be.
God is awesome and powerful and is not to be mocked. Let alone a physical manefestation or repersentation of God. In that time they did not live in a state of constant grace. (which is why people were killed for certain sins.)
