Religion ≠ "God". While it may indeed be the case that certain laws have their basis in religion, to say that by extension that means they come from a god is one hell of a stretch.
Personally, I would "address God as inferior to man" every time. In fact, I would go further and state that "God" is inferior to anything at all, being the least powerful entity ever invented; so powerless that anyone can make it say and do anything they want.
