I believe those verses were put in because the church did not want their sheep to be taking mind alternating drugs other than Jesus, least they get the same sort of experiences or even more intense than they get from Jesus. I swear Jesus is probably the worst mind alternating drug you can take, because it impairs a large amount of your thinking
