The Spirit Molecule

RE: The Spirit Molecule
I'm not sure how one supposes one "fixes" one's mind. This thread was in order to gain more information, but I will share more if it helps.

ldous Huxley, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Carl Sagan, Francis Crick, Graham Hancock, Andrew Weil, Alex Shulgin, Richard Feynman, and Kary Mullis all openly admit to gaining from some kind of DMT experience. I'm sure more people at the top of their fields prefer to be private about it.

Richard Dawkins admits he would like to experience some limited form of releasing DMT in a controlled environment, although appears out of touch in likening it to a magnetic field passing through the brain. This is something an EEG will not give you a complete answer to no matter how much activity it objectively measures, although it could indicate a lot. Certain people may simply not be able to stimulate this part of the brain in the same way and therefore perceive reality a lot differently, but it is worth finding out.

If people prefer to judge and don't want to consider this openly and scientifically that is fine. But whether people want to suppress it or not, I think people have had similar experiences, which has also been partly documented by religions. I'll reiterate an area of interest to those who are relatively intrigued.

Stimulation of the pineal gland:
- It is clear that the pineal gland releases DMT upon death or near death. This can also be achieved through dreaming, meditation, music, and starvation. It may also be more prominent in those who have experienced more flight or fight situations.
- Meditation is how Taoists and Hindus achieve the third eye chakra, and in the Muslim and Christian religions fasting is seen of significance to maintaining a further relationship with god. Jewish sage mystics have been describing this experience as well for thousands of years. All sorts of indigenous tribes use chanting to induce a trance like state from Africa to South America.

"There is some commonality of feeling. I know it. Well, I don't know it, I want someone to do the experiment. Because, the day you do, if the same centres of my brain are excited by these cosmic thoughts, as are going on in the mind of a religious person, that's something to know." - Neil deGrasse Tyson.

Another possible area worth considering with this is the effect DMT has on the blind:
- It has been claimed that colour-blind people are able to distinguish shades of grey better when sober after a heavy DMT experience.
- Someone who was blind from birth may get an enhanced visual perspective as well.

Also, why do animals and plants and almost every living organism have it? Perhaps some have studied their pets sleep and dream before. A flower possesses the same molecule. A true scientist can't just dismiss all of this as superstition. How did a society that is claimed to be free and democratic get to a stage where studying plants is illegal?

Any consciousness that is not related to the production or the consumption of material goods is stigmatised. Just because it is not an alert problem-solving mentality does not mean it should be any less significant to scientific research. Politics got scared of the 60s, the research isn't funded.

Psychiatry up until the 50s had no concept that neurochemistry had any role to play in emotional behaviour. The discovery of LSD was very much related to the discovery of serotonin. There is a huge gap with DMT that is not accounted for. The gravitational field discovered in the 1600s, the electromagnetic field discovered in the 1800s, what could be discovered in the 2000s? Dark energy, and so on... enhancing perceptions of the environment of the universe.

Even if you have no use for the concept of god, what about concepts of higher dimensions of cosmos or conciousness. Perhaps the brain is the radio tuner as opposed to the creator of it. There is something way bigger we do not understand. If the psychopharmacy of psychedelic experiences is the same to religious experiences it would help us understand these experiences that are occurring within the human brain.

What is the evolutionary advantage of part of the brain that seems to trigger and mediate experiences of a transcendent? The great paradox is DMT both requires and produces a transformative effect. The material realm is not the only realm. We may need the help of the plants and the medicines to respect that. Not everyone should need or want to, but research and cultural awareness is needed so it is not pushed aside because that is how this reductionist society validates things.

There is something to gain from studying the compounds of introspection and sub-reflection, and there may be treatment models for people who discover conventional treatments are ineffective. We know DMT and similar alkaloids have a very strong effect on the same receptor sites that are involved in depression and anxiety.

It helps people come to terms with any fear of dying. Conciousness may be primary in the universe and matter a result of. It can improve quality of life for cancer patients and the time they have remaining. If we can develop this general higher realm experience into ordinary science with methods then our intelligence capability of survival on planet earth may enhance - an intellectual evolution may be dependent on psychedelic frontiers.

We need to open up to the numinous world and distinguish it from superstition. What is the only current physical scientific truth we can say about the future? We will experience death. What do we experience prominently during death? DMT. We have the ability for physical experience and we have the ability for spiritual experience.

The choices in our civilisation at the moment do not fulfil the greatest potential. There is a lot more to the biosphere than we imagine. More knowledge of DMT is welcomed.
