Thing is though, as with any medical procedure: if it's legal and subsidized, everyone will be doing it.
I'm pro choice in the end, but I think there needs to be regulations and huge preventative measures.
I'm not the one making the laws, never will be. Thus I can say what I feel and I feel a late term abortion is inhumane.
Well, dentists visits are legalized and subsidized.....if you think that "everyone will be doing it" fits - you've clearly never been to Kentucky. Laying that aside. I suppose you and I are in similar boats. I'm entirely, personally, opposed to the idea of abortion except as a lifesaving precaution. I won't tell a female she's "wrong" in the sense that it;s so commonly taken. I would simply prefer that there be more of us, rather than fewer - and I would not want to have been aborted myself (my mother made it as far as the door - as she's often fond of telling me..lol). That said, my desire to see more of us, my aversion to the notion of abortion....is not strong enough reason to bar others from having them. It doesn't carry enough weight, wouldn't matter if 99% of "the people" agreed with me - because last I checked - we are not a democracy where the mob rules.
A fun little hueristic about law (can't remember where I first heard this one) and your personal appraisal of it's value. Take any thing at all. Imagine that in fantasyland it is a crime, a severe one. Now imagine that you witnessed someone committing that crime. Would you turn them in? Ultimately what you are considering is your level of complicity in the enforcement of law. It's subtle, but important, because as "the people" we -are- complicit in the enforcement of our laws. Our dollars, our reps, they're doing all of this -for us- ostensibly. It would surprise me if there was anything, any law or debate about a law where there weren't folks with positions similar to ours, because I've drawn up that little list a few times (at different times in my life...it changes..in my case...apparently) and it always surprises me. That's how I find myself, personally, opposing abortion - but unwilling to enforce my opposition upon another - namely the one carrying the parasite.
