A whole range of social insects have found ways to modify their environment to their advantage. Termites are still the only creatures that operate air conditioning systems controlling both temperature and humidity without the need for an artificial power source.

There are many creatures that perform what we would think of as intellectual tasks without the need for a complex brain. How do you think salmon find their way across thousands of miles of ocean to return to the stream of their birth in order to breed?

Only by thinking in anthropomorphic terms can you postulate human superiority. Many species have already survived much longer than human beings and human beings are currently following a pattern, followed by other species before, which may well lead to their own extinction.
