I think the justification for that claim is that religion clearly states the mandatory denial of every other form of believe or creed - be it crystals, astrology, or even other religions.
But there is no risk to falling into that pit for me, I guess. If parents don't teach children not to be skeptical and/or curious about things, it is awesome how much they might end up being.
