Careful how you phrase it. Today the use of drugs falls under psychiatry. Drugs have been the only success ever for psychiatry.
The correct question is psychoanalysis evil. Psychoanalysis in the Freudian sense of talking your way to mental health.
That is a total fraud and scam and should have been criminalized the moment it started. It has never cured anyone.

The fraction of the population in asylums remained constant until drug treatments were introduced. Then they were largely emptied and closed. Freud was a fraud as was everyone who conned people into believing they could talk their way to mental health.
Those people never cured anyone and to this day will not submit to double blind studies but rely upon anecdotes just as do the people pushing alternate medicine.
