44 , married , 2 kids[youngest turns 13 in a day or so], born and raised in s.f. bay area.
my parents were methodists, but as a kid it never really made sense to me. Then when you ask questions and don't get answers it only brings more questions. I was never content with the non-answer answer- godswill -he works in mysterious ways -because i said so.
For a long time i was a pretty passive 'live and let live' atheist, i'd tell ya what i thought if you asked but was just as happy to leave you alone if you did the same. But after watching .... however many years of the religious right pushing a political agenda i became less and less passive. More willing to stand up and say something.
I feel, the more people talk openly about religion/atheism and we get beyond the mentality of you can't question religion or faith and hold it up to light and see it for what it is , a sham.
just as a side note-
so you can get a mental picture, 80% of the time i'm typing there is a 20lb cat laying between me and the keyboard, as if i didn't type horribly enough, and the other 20% of the time the big cat is still there but there is also kitten scratching the screen and finding shortcuts with my keyboard i did know existed.
