But then I heard Sam Harris's talk on Free Will and what, if it is indeed an illusion, the consequences would be: We would have to have ultimate compassion with everyone because nobody is really in charge of what happens in their life (*). If I would've been born in a Southern Baptist state I might have need to believe these stories as well, and that is quite a humbling thought.
(*) now of course applying this to ourselfs is a fallacy and indeed would be lazy. There's a significant difference between applying this to how we feel about other's actions and our own... it's a bit paradoxical, I admit...
