@whateverist: Cthulhu Dreaming is right. That was both helpful and gave me lolz at the same time.
If I'm going to be super honest with myself and others such as yourself, I'd have to say that I have certain insecurities that draw me to places such as ReasonableFaith forums and here. I desperately want people to like me. I want my word to mean something to them. I want to be respected... and so I will conduct myself in such a way as I perceive I ought to act in order to gain respect. Then, perhaps, fruitful dialogue will come much easier.
In some sense it's an intellectual game. In another sense, my world-view arrests this thought and reminds me, "these are real people with souls."
In one sense I am close-minded; at least insofar as it is true that I very much doubt that my views on fundamental theistic concepts will change. In another sense, I'd like to consider myself as being open-minded, having recently come to accept the theory of evolution as an adequate explanation of cosmic and biological complexity.(though I hold this belief loosely as I'm basically taking "modern science's" word for it)
This is some of the psychology that drives me.
May I also commend you, whateverist, as a proper and decent chap.

"I know what you are thinking about,' said Tweedledum: 'but it isn't so, nohow.'
'Contrariwise,' continued Tweedledee, 'if it was so, it might be; and if it were so, it would be; but as it isn't, it ain't. That's logic." ~Tweedledum and Tweedledee discussing the finer points of logic
