I don't see it as limiting debate, but rather limiting exchanges like this:
Theist: Where do you get your morals from if not from God?
Atheist: *explains how different societies have had moral rules to follow long before Christianity*
T: Yeah, but they were just following God's law without knowing it. Where do you atheists claim to get your morals?
A: *explains the concept of treating people how they'd want to be treated*
T: But that's just following God's law. If you didn't follow God's law and atheism were real, you'd be going out killing, raping, and stealing because atheism doesn't have any rules against it.
A: *explains again societal rules and atheism doesn't have any "rules"*
T: You've just proved my point. All morals come from God.
A: *massive facepalmheaddesk*
