I think it has more to do with the fact that gay kids are coming out of the closet earlier now and their peers are overall fine with them as they are, especially considering the gay rights plight seems to be the next civil rights movement that is taking everyone by storm. The younger generation cannot understand why the old folk dislike gay people.
