Yep, dogs can teach you a lot.
When I put Sophie down my vet was booked so I found another one who would do it that day but they wanted to see her first. Always in the past I would draw the end out far beyond what made sense for the dog. I'm glad I didn't draw out her suffering.
This was Sophie on her next to the last walk. She had another with about the same liveliness the day before she died.
This was Sophie on the morning I put her down. Couldn't get up. Was visibly distressed when she voided on her pillow. Showed no interest in sniffing around or eating that morning for the first, and last, time in her life once I carried her down to the garden.
