He put me in mind of the following bit of dialogue from an early M*A*S*H episode, something like:
Major Burns: Why is it, whenever I walk into a room it's disgusting?
Radar: You said it, sir.
Or the old Jasper Carrott bit about his mother-in-law's driving: how she's never had an accident in her life; she's seen hundreds, though, in her mirror.
