There are different types of dimensions, the spacial and the temporal. There is one known temporal dimension and 3 known spacial dimensions. How they interact is called space-time and the theory of relativity describes those relations. Time is not the 4th dimension. It is a separate entity.
It is still being worked out in physics where the dimensions came from. Did space come first or did time, or is time only an aspect of space itself?
