Absolutely, if you have legitimate reason to suspect that you were being followed by someone who intended harm. Trayvon was being stalked by a man who made no effort to identify himself or his intentions and, as it turned out, was carrying a loaded weapon. Good enough for me.
Did Trayvon have a deadly weapon on his person? Was a big ol bro like Zim utterly helpless and in fear for his life against a boy barely half his age armed only with his fists? Was Zim's only recourse to pull out the gun and fire it, instead of simply using it to persuade Trayvon to back off?
It's hard to suggest Trayvon got 'off the hook' when he's, yunno, dead.
