I don't deny Saul as the engine behind the popularity but all my research onto the topic has turned up the idea that Jesus was unknown till Peter the raving Jewish street preacher started to piss off the Temple with his proclamation that the Jewish messiah Emanuel came in the form of a man named Jesus whom he only ever described in court as a prominent star in the sky that talked to him...
