God banished Satan because he thought Satan and a bunch of angels would try to over-throw God's throne? The banishment initially was based on the sin of pride. Lucifer and those who followed him wanted what God had. Kingdom and authority. So God seperated those who wanted to live apart from God from those who wanted to live with God/Under His authority. Persumeably to test the hearts of rest of creation.
Quote:He banashed them to earth, to torture his most prized creation, us.Torture? No. Tempt yes. Earth is where the wheat is threshed, sifted and winnowed from the chaff. (Where those who truly want to be with God and spend all they have to A/S/K for God, and those who do not are seperated from those who do.)
Satan and his followers are not gods or powers acting against God as the movies and some religions portray. The bible upto revelation shows (especially in the book of Job and in the temptations of Christ) that the devil is a reluctant servant of God, and can not do anything unless given permission. It is not till revelations 12 does satan finally declare war.
Quote:But, all of this is just to kill time before God decides to issue his ultimate punishment, Hell?Again no, Satan serves a purpose and is still a servant of God. He will be until he tries and breaks his bonds in Revelation 12. after which will be sent to Hell not as it's ruler but as a prisoner in a terriable prision.
Quote:You made the comparison of Jail earlier. The bible refers Hell to be a prision prepared for Satan and his followers.
Quote: How is what you've just described different than us sending criminals (rapists and murderers) to spend time at school with our children before actually putting them in Jail? This merciful stuff sounds really confusing.Satan repersents choice via sin. Without satan there is no 'knoweledge' of sin. without this knoweledge there is no 'free will.' Fore there is only God's expressed will as witnessed by Adam and Eve upto the fall.
Quote: Yeah Drich! Because we're puny people, and he's supposed to be a supreme God! Human faculties seem a bit primitive for such a divine entity to be limited by. Some of us find it a bit unsatisfying. But hey, we all drink Kool-aide, choose your flavor wisely, eh?Why do you assume Prision is a Human faculty? As you pointed out God created a prision for Satan first, and we simply followed suit. Just because we adopt something God does, does not then proclude God from using His "Faculty."

God knows it is comming and has foretold that when it is over the result will be eternal banishment.Does it say how long God waited before he decided to cast him down? Was this before or after He created earth? Did the devil come before the...I mean, the chicken before the egg? You know?

It was Between Creation and the Fall.
which could have been days, months years, eons millions of trillions of years. We do not know how long Adam lasted before he fell into temptation.
