Because it didn't sound anything remotely like me. I've got a southern twang. The voice they used didn't sound anything like a southern accent.
It actually sounded exactly like the voice popular black comedians used when they were making jokes about white people.
Look, I know why you're defending your side of this debate. It's psychologically comfortable and seen as the "enlightened" side. You can't mention any of this shit without a shit storm brewing. But it's true.
I met a guy from ethiopia once. We hung out for several days talking about all kinds of stuff. After about 3 or 4 days, I realized he was black. And I realized this in a bit of a shock, because he was obviously black. Yet it didn't dawn on me for days.
