But I still think that atheists are far less likely to do something like 911.... well I mean - not because of their atheism anyway! They'd need to add in a cult to their mere disbelief in God (even if they are irrational in how they disbelieve). If that makes sense.

But if you're referring to things like 911, I believe (once again) Dawkins mentioned a brilliant example: atheists have no recognized community; we have no churches, nor synagogues, simply because we don't need them. We don't have Bibles or hymns, so there's no real collected vindication. I crudely quote him as likening the lobbying of atheists to the herding of cats. That, added to that mentality which tells us something like "if people in my community do it, it's okay" (the phrase is at the tip of my tongue) and actual power (politically in the United States, for example), perhaps differentiates us from the suicide bombers?
More importantly we don't have a Bible that says it's justified to kill in the FSM's name.
But what the hey! Extremists are everywhere anyway!
