I think racism is when one chooses to act or say something *because* of someone's racial features. The OP was simply stating an objective fact of the past: that that conversation took place. What *is* racist though is ronedee implying that if you say that in "the hood", you'll get beat up. You're not reporting anything objective ronedee, but rather directly referring to a stereotype that says because they're black, they're going to beat you up for saying stuff like in the OP. Your statement was directly formulated by these hypothetical people's racial feature, and that's racist.
