Mixed. My father is nearing the end of his life, and this past week my mother (his ex-wife) was getting his affairs in order at his home.
She found a number of letters that I had written to him in the army, over 25 years ago. All of the letters that I wrote him, in fact. Letters I had forgotten I had written. Letters that he hadn't bothered to answer.
My relationship with my father has always been strained and distant, and that fact is only reinforced with this reminder.
Mom said Dad obviously cherished my letters, and she thought I should have them. I told her that I didn't want them, and that I wanted Dad to keep them.
Well, she dropped them off at the house while I was gone. Fuck.
