I thought David Cameron was in line to the throne. To be honest, more people are than you might think. I'm pretty sure I'm connected to the line at some point, and a few friends of mine are too.
If I recall my history classes correctly, one of the reasons Charles was brought back was because people thought the Royal bloodline was chosen by God, and that God would punish them for having a republic rather than a monarch. Don't think we'd say the same now
