I decided some time ago that mounting challenges to YEC is pure futility. Since it is neither scientific nor rational, it is irrefutable.
Please note that 'irrefutable' doesn't mean 'true' - it simply means that any rational refutation offered will always be countered (ultimately) by the hoary platitude that God ways are mysterious. Bear in mind that this fall back position is neither a refutation of science nor a defense of creationism. It is nothing more than a confession of abysmal ignorance about the way the world wags and what wags it.
If you accept that the Earth is on the close order of 10 000 years old, that all species are fixed and immutable, that agreements about the age of our planet in geology, chemistry, biology and astronomy are ALL wrong, that 99.9% of scientists are engaged in some nefarious anti-God conspiracy - all well and good, you've a right to believe whatever helps you sleep better at night. But to claim that YEC is on a par with legitimate science not only flies in the face of reason, it indicates a perverse and disturbing unwillingness to accept observed facts about the world as is.
