What I find interesting about this statement is that we can prove it demonstrably untrue; just looking at the statistics, prisons are full of the religious, not atheists. If one looks at stats on child abuse, it's the religious doing the majority of that too, and the more fundamental they are, the worse it gets. And so on, and so on.
If anyone is guilty of interpreting moral rules in convenient ways, then the evidence bears out that it is the people with their morality clearly written in ancient books that are more inclined to spin it, or disregard it, or outright break it in accordance with their own whims.
You can toss out generalizations and baseless stereotypes all you like, Harris; the facts point in precisely the opposite direction.
