I do not know if I understand this verse correctly or not, but it really disturbs me. How iI interpet it is basically saying that one must should live their whole life for god, in a manner that gives glory to him. Now before I go any further I'd like to say that moderation is definitely a good thing, but after reading this verse I cannot help but find that this makes god seem petty, selfish, and jealous.
What kind of a human would I be if I asked this of my children?
To-morrow, and to-morrow, and to-morrow,
Creeps in this petty pace from day to day,
To the last syllable of recorded time;
And all our yesterdays have lighted fools
The way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle!
Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player,
